Frequently asked questions

Short answers about Fire Truck Dispatch, the free browser game where you run a town's fire department.

What is Fire Truck Dispatch?

Fire Truck Dispatch is a top-down fire department game. You are the dispatcher and later the fire chief of Pinebrook, a small low-poly town. You send fire trucks to house fires, car crashes, forest fires and much bigger disasters, refill their water, earn money, buy new trucks and unlock new parts of town.

Is Fire Truck Dispatch free?

Yes. The web version is free to play in your browser at firetruckdispatch.com, with no download, no account and no ads.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. It runs in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on a computer, tablet or phone. It uses WebGL for the 3D town.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Everything works by touch: tap or drag a truck onto a fire, drag across the flames to aim the hose, pinch to zoom. Landscape and portrait both work, and there is a UI size slider in the settings.

Does the game save my progress?

Yes, automatically, in your browser. There are three save slots. Saves stay on that device and in that browser, so clearing your browser data deletes them.

How do I put out a fire?

Drag a fire truck onto the fire. When it arrives, press and drag across the flames to aim the hose. Keep going until the fire bar is empty. If the truck runs out of water, send it to the lake or back to the station to refill.

How do I refill a fire truck?

Send it to water: the lake in the centre of town, each district's pond, quarry or river, or the hydrant at your fire station. The fireboat pumps straight from the sea. Foam trucks refill their foam only at the station.

How do I get more fire trucks?

Put out fires to earn money, then go into your fire station and buy trucks at the dealer. There are over twenty vehicles, from a tiny kei truck to ladder trucks, foam tenders, 4x4 brush trucks, helicopters, a fireboat and water-bombing planes.

How do I unlock new districts?

The Mayor hands you a new part of town once you have put out enough fires and own enough trucks. The order is Downtown, the Factory District, the Mines, the Airport and the Wilderness.

Which truck should I use for which fire?

Tall towers downtown need a ladder truck or a helicopter. Chemical and jet fuel fires flare up again after plain water, so they need foam. The Mines and the Wilderness have dirt roads where 4x4s are fastest. The truck dealer says what each truck is good at.

What are catastrophes?

Big three-stage disasters that come every so often, such as a runaway blimp downtown, a train derailment in the Factory District, or a plane belly landing at the airport. Fail one and you can try it again.

Is there a difficulty setting?

Yes: Relaxed, Normal and Hard. You pick one for each save slot and can change it any time from the pause menu.

Is it a good game for kids?

It is made to be friendly: no blood, nobody gets hurt, bright low-poly graphics, and the dispatcher Maya explains everything as you play. It does need some reading, so younger kids may like a grown-up nearby.

How long does it take to finish?

Unlocking the whole town and beating every catastrophe takes a few hours on Normal. After the last catastrophe the town carries on, so you can keep playing.

Who made Fire Truck Dispatch?

Filip Mašek, an independent developer. The game is built with three.js and Rapier and is still growing.
